It is impossible to understand God's will... who could understand God allowing death and confusion.
You can only accept the teachings of his will or you don't. But to understand... we never will.

I understand it as an imagined explanation for things that are either unexplainable or confusing to those that seek an understanding of what is happening.
The pursuit of a 'reason' or 'purpose' is at the heart of attempting to understand 'God's will'. You ask the question 'why am I here?' and look to the unknowable (life) for an answer. It is easier to put a name or face to the unknowable so you call it 'god'. Problem is that you can not 'hear' an answer so you continue to pursue a 'reason' or 'purpose' for living.
Aren't you life? Why does life require a purpose? Why would this purpose need to come from a thing called 'god' if YOU ARE the life that you are seeking the answer from?

Where your heart, mind, and soul lies. And the constructive side of it is God's will, and destructive side is Satan's will.
Some may want to educate the illeterate, some have the desire to make earth greener, some want the poverty to be abolished, some want the kids get better exposure, some want to excel in their job/business...all constructive things. That is God's will.
These persons also want some cheap entertainment, or sleep, or illegitimate sex, or alcohol, or any waste pastime. All are Satan's will.
Just put your mind and heart together - you will find God's purpose of creating you. Just look at you why are not there where you want to be, you will find the Satan's will of destroying you. Even when we were unicellular, God has programmed his will for us, and also has let us know that. We experience it, but we are not realizing it.

i believe Gods will is for me to live this life, to learn , grow, experience , think, to use the mind and spirit i have been given to find my own path
i dont feel totally distanced or separated, yet at the same time i am here as an individual, sort of like i guess when a child leaves home, or a close friend moves on to a new adventure, they are own their own, yet always remain in touch with their base , the foundation from which they went,

At first, it will be hard to understand, in fact, you may not understand it. Give time and soon you will be able to realize that His plans and decisions are the best, not just for you but for all concerned.

For me it is completely impossible.
If god exists it's full of contradiction and irrationality.
