When I was little my mom and dad always said what do you want from santa? So easily I told them, as I grew older to an adult I continue to ask my mom is Santa real? She says yes, I think she still considers me a child who should believe in him but it feels childish now that I am an adult. So, do you guys know if he's real?

No matter how old you are, or what others tell you, Santa Claus is real. Never forget that.

What makes you think he isn't real? Here is what the NY Sun had to say about it over 100 years ago!

Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus
By Francis P. Church, first published in The New York Sun in 1897. [See The People’s Almanac, pp. 1358–9.]

We take pleasure in answering thus prominently the communication below, expressing at the same time our great gratification that its faithful author is numbered among the friends of The Sun:

Dear Editor—

I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, “If you see it in The Sun, it’s so.” Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus?

Virginia O’Hanlon

Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The external light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies. You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if you did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived could tear apart. Only faith, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives and lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

The Santa Claus tradition comes from Nicholas Claus the Bishop of Ulm in Germany hundreds of years ago. This real person was also mixed as time went by with the ancient psuedo-pagan mythical figure of Father Christmas. Nicholas of Ulm used to pass out gifts to poor kids at Christmas from a horse drawn sleigh. He was cannonized (made a saint)after his death by the Catholic church.

Santa Claus is real because he was already declared a saint. Therefore, if he is a saint, he can perform miracles such as giving gifts to a mass number of good children

Santa Claus myth was based on a real man named Nicholas Claus. He lived in the forest, near the town.
He felt so bad for the poor needy children not getting anything and having anything for Christmas, so he decided to spent a lot of time, building and creating toys and wrapping them up to give on Christmas Eve.
On Christmas Eve, which was December the 24th, Nicholas had placed all the neatly wrapped gifts in his sleigh, placed the reigns of his sleigh around the neck of his deer and rode into town placing all presents into the homes of every child for each child.
Nicholas Claus was considered a saint, people had referred to him as Santa Claus, Santa is Latin for saint.

Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas, Kris Kringle, or simply "Santa" was a historical figure. Saint Nicholas of Myra is the primary inspiration for the Christian figure of Santa Claus. He was a 4th century Christian bishop of Myra in Lycia, a province of the Byzantine Anatolia, now in Turkey. Nicholas was famous for his generous gifts to the poor, in particular presenting the three impoverished daughters of a pious Christian with dowries so that they would not have to become prostitutes. He was very religious from an early age and devoted his life entirely to Christianity. So in this sense, yes, Santa Claus was real.

I'm sorry to say he's not. And my mom did the same thing with me. But now I know he's not, but it's still fun to "pretend" he is, like for the younger kids in my family. And now when I ask for something I get a limit while Santa never had one.

Spelt with an 'e' on the end, no! But if you believe in him, he watches over you or gives you gifts. If you don't believe in him, he ignores you so you might as well think he doesn't exist.
