IF you find a whale bone, I will buy it from you! Please do not carve into it...I collect oddities like this. I would love to have a vertibrae from one of these gigantic, beautiful creatures (not killed by whale hunting). I have a penchant for large fossils (have giant Trilobites, etc., a large Alligator skull found on the shores of Lake Okachobee, and lots of other wierd things...I love this kind of stuff! Phil

Actually, I wouldn't CARVE anything...I'd start digging looking for the rest of the carcass.

A story....my sister and I were playing around on the beach of Lake Ontario one summer (I think I was around 7 years old), and we came across the top of a submerged anchor. We were only able to uncover the topmost eye of the thing because our arms were not long enough to reach any deeper, AND the tide was coming in. We DID, however, manage to uncover the date "1870" stamped in the thing before we had to take off to a safe part of the beach.

Unfortunately, we were never able to find that anchor again.

Well first I had to look me up that word 'scrimshaw'. lol
I'd carve me a little possum' in it to remind me of the little guys who like to visit us at night and to honor all those who are hill folk, like I am.

I have actually done this... It may not have been a whale bone however... The etching was of an Indian Village next to a river with canoes at the bank... it was wonderful and I had completely forgotten about it...

Thanks Wally!!! You keep bringing up all these wonderful memories for me!

I am not that artistic. I do have strange collectibles including a meteorite and trilobites, amber with insects in it. I also have a rock with 2 large garnets in it, it is from Brazil

I had to thumbs UP Goldwing who wants a whale vertibrae. It just sounded funny.

EDIT -- Haha Judy B. It took me awhile to get that one. I'm a little slow. My momma always said, life was like a box of chocolates...

I'd take that baby home and spend a few years thinking about it.

Nothing, I would put it in my garden as a feature. Goldwing, as you collect old fossills, I live with one that you can have. (love him really!)
