Simply put... Apathy, complacency, fear, and maintaining the status quo -- because change is difficult and keeping things the same is easy. People fear change mostly because they do not know what a new set of expectations might bring in the way of results. People fear doing something about the corruption within our government, because they have been trained since childhood to believe that the government is just too powerful and too deeply entrenched. Although people could probably handle the truth, the lies are more comfortable because of the false sense of security they provide.
People need to understand that our government should be "for the people" ... meaning that the government should reflect the best interests of the people and support our agendas. Not the people reflecting the governments selfish interests and supporting the governments selfish agendas.
Understand this bit of simplicity... government is made up of people not Gods. Our current government consists of corrupt men and women who only care about their own interests. Our Declaration of Independence says that we have a right and a DUTY to throw off such government when it oppresses the people and their inalienable rights. Guess what ... that is exactly what they are doing. They are PEOPLE not Gods... they bleed too. They do not have the right to lie, cheat or steal from We the People and contrary to popular belief, they are not all powerfull nor are they abiove the letter of law. They do not have the right to oppress us and our rights. They do not have the right to make decisions on our behalf that will bring harm to everyone here or otherwise have a direct negative impact on us without first putting it to a proper vote.
Read the Declaration of Independence... Understand that it is We the People who have the Power, not They the Government. We gave them the power that they abuse... it is now up to US to take that power away from them.

Let me suggest this as the problem from my perspective.
Americans (perhaps by human nature) do not like change.
The majority of Americans are intellectually lazy.
Taking on "The System" is time consuming and exhausting.
There is far too many "Simon Says" idiosyncracies of the process to trip up even the most committed patriot from realizing the goal of actual "truth, justice and the American Way."
And even it you succeed in electing a politician, they are soon corrupted. Think to Senator Paul Wellstone who said he would not run for another term, and then changed his mind because his followers demanded he do so. Everyone has there price, and generally it is low enough so that money plows under principle, ethics and morals.
Further, By the time most of us realize there is a problem, we have a job, debts, spouses, families, children, obligations and commitments. Think of your and your peers "political coming of age" Every year a new batch of green americans are usherred out of high school and tend to focus on education and or partying. Sooner or later they take on debts, get married and have responsibilities that lack of resource or fear of potential retaliation, keep them from being involved in the time and energy hogging Third Party, honest politician revolution. By chance, trick or design, this is the nature of the human American Existence.
Still further, Change Brings Turmoil and the chance that things will be worse rather than better than what currently exists.
In a College Political Science course we were taught that true revolution does not generally occur unless 51% or more of the population think that anything else would be better than their current situation. Revolution is temporary Anarchy. Anarchy is scary to middle class americans simply trying to raise a family and realize the american dream.
Lastly, One of my favorite sayings : American Democracy is the worst from of government on the planet except everything else that has been tried.
Call me when the revolution begins.
Good Luck

If Bush has not committed impeachable offenses, there are no impeachable offenses. We have evidently sunk to a new low, turning aside from corruption even when that corruption causes needless deaths, needless suffering, needless expense and needless disruption of foreign lands.
Clinton's lie was child's play compared to the despicable behavior of Bush. There are few of us who would not lie to spare our families humiliation or to keep our bedroom behavior from being bandied about by salacious fools.
But to lie for War? Take a look at those veterans with their arms, legs and eyes blown out! Take a look at the misery of the Iraqi people! NightLine had a program on about a military hospital and you could see the little children, two years old, eight and nine years old, being carried in with wounds, some dying.
What is ironic is that the people supporting Bush and the War are those who claim to be moral and who harp on "family values." If it weren't so tragic, it would be funny. There is a warped mentality in the world today, twisting words like morality and decency to mean their exact opposites.

the actuality that maximum human beings 'settle for' the theory that all and sundry politicians lie, would not 'determine' something rather. We settle for a brilliant form of issues that would or won't be unavoidably actual. i might say that mutually as the very nature of the beast guarantees that all of them lie, that would not unavoidably advise that they in no way tell the actuality the two. the two way, your question is a valid one. As mentioned before (above) i think of the genuine question is do they promise issues they'd't grant? Do they promise some issues they'd? i might say particular to the two. i'm no longer approximately to throw the little one out with the bathwater using fact our senses have been so mindlessly raped over the final 8 years. no longer anybody is as deviously self serving. in spite of in the event that they're politicians. yet to respond to your question immediately (too late, i understand)... particular even those people who have faith basically a million/2 of what we hear look for motives to have faith. i think of that is born out of helplessness rather. very resembling the youngster with abusive mothers and fathers, or the married guy or woman with the cheating or abusive companion.... that is human nature to desire issues to be precise, tremendously if one rather would not understand what to do approximately it. Your power has probably been stripped away. As this usa has been divided, and saved that way, our genuine power (we, the folk) as an entire, have no power as long as we are residing that way. we are basically a brilliant form of fragments. And so we've faith, so one can desire.

Adolph Hitler once said: tell a lie, make it a big lie, and repeat it often. Eventually, people will believe it.
We're a nation of slothful, hubris-laden, hate-filled, apathetic, selfish, arrogant, greedy, morally bankrupt people. We believe liars because most of us are liars. We condone political malfeasance because most of us practice the same kind of poor personal conduct to one degree or another. We thrive on hating our neighbors, cheating our friends, lying to our spouses, and fighting with our partners. Why should we expect anything better from our elected 'public servants'?
As did the great Greek and Roman empires, the American society will collapse - sooner rather than later. The average age of most democratic civilizations is 200 years; America is overdue for its own self-destruction.
Lying is a prerequisite for politicians because that brings them down to our own level of reprehense and disgust. If our elected officials were truly honorable statesmen, we wouldn't have any justification in feeling morally or ethically superior to them. -RKO- 11/24/07

This brings something to mind that my teenage daughter said to me. She said mom every one lies. If you think about it people do lie and it is accepted. First it is white lies then just lies to get you out of trouble. Then you have the lies you tell because its better that they not know.
In the end there is almost no one who always tells the truth no matter what. It is accepted in society and that's the truth!!!
If we want to fix the presidency we need to fix ourselves first.

I believe the new term used is called sheeple. Americans are lazy by nature, it takes a lot of something bad for Americans to get fed up and want to get off their fat butts to change things.
As far as these people who support Bush on the grounds that Clinton did it too, I consider myself an educated person, therefore I will not argue with idiots.

We are a Country, we are not the world.
Maybe your right, but we need things to keep this Country going.
Some people don't understand that fact.
Do you want your children to work in sweat shops for a bowl of rice, no of course you don't.
And neither do your politician.
Would you cheat, steal and even kill to make sure your family has what it needs to survive, most people would.
We know they would, because they do it everyday.
Maybe you don't or say you wouldn't, but be VERY glad you may never have to find out.
But before you give me a thumbs down for my Psychotic Logic, think for a minute.
What would happen if we did try and be as fair as we could to other countries, they'd take advantage of us, why wouldn't they.
We don't live in a Utopian society, we can't make laws that would only work in a Utopian society, understand?
So yeah maybe they lie, but look at what it cost them.. your trust, your peace of mind.
They do what they have to because, as narrominded as this question truly is, equally is your ignorance at the problems our government has everyday.
ps. yes bob it's me lol

The way to the top in any industry that revolves around people is to be good at social poker. This involves manipulation. But over half of it is self-deception. Most of them *think* they are good honest people no matter how ruthless they are. They have just decided that the end justifies the means. And the way they all pretend to be religious when they clearly aren't always cracks me up.

In my opinion, there are only 2 ways to do something about this. One, Nobody vote. I mean NOBODY. What happens in nobody showed up at the polls to vote for president? The American people (Not other politicians) would have effectively fired the President. In my mind that is the only way to send a message to Washington that the American people are sick of the lies and games politicians play at our expense. Two, everyone vote for a third party. I mean EVERYONE. In my mind that would send a message to republicans and democrats that the American people are sick of Parisian politics and business as usual.
Right now though, neither situation will happen. There are too many people who will vote for one party or another out of sheer hatred for the other party. There are also too many sheep out there. By that I mean, too many people who will do whatever is expected of them without thinking for themselves. Last, there are too many people who will vote for one party or another because they fear voting for a third candidate will only take more votes away from the republican or democrat. IE, there won't be enough third party votes to make a difference.
