May be a better question could be: '' where did I come from before I was born'' and ''where do I go when I am dead''. I am not religious as such and am of the opinion that life is relative at any one time as to where you are existing at that moment.
Our very bodily make up is renewable, what we do know is that our bodies break down at some point, usually after around an average of say eighty years, our bodies then separate from our minds and return to the soil. That is a fact,
Our bodies die.
What we don't know is what happens then, as far as I know energy cannot be removed from the vacuum in which we live, so where does that energy go that makes our souls unique.
No one can prove either way whether that is the end of life or the point of reincarnation. Reincarnation makes sense so I would say looking from a scientific point of view that after life is the claiming of a body by a natural evolutionary process that at the present time we do not have the knowledge to deal with.

No, of course not.
Why would any rational person think there was?
It makes the grief of someone you love dying a bit more tolerable, and eases the fear we all feel about the end of existence. But the fact that it's comforting does not make it real.
There is no (and I mean NO) evidence to even suggest the possibility exists.
If you search hard enough you will find stories and myths to support it. But there are plenty of those to support the existence of fairies, ghosts, aliens, even good old Father Christmas.
If you are gullible, plenty of people who want some kind of power over you will assure you it's true, because some middle eastern character said it centuries ago, and somebody wrote it down. But that's not exactly evidence is it?
But, if you are prepared to pay - there are people lining up to offer you all kinds of conjuring tricks and some will even arrange an introduction to a dead persons spirit.
My advice, is to forget all that nonsense. Rely on evidence and science to inform your beliefs and get on with your life.
It's the only one you'll get!

Sure there is. The problem is, it all takes place where you are buried. You could rest in a urn on the mantle, but your choices are limited. Visit a cemetary. This is "afterlife." People argue with "God" all the time. "Why did you allow this to happen to me?" Don't expect an answer.

The only stupid question is the one not asked. How else do we learn?
I truly believe in afterlife as I believe in the living God that created the world and everyone/thing in it and has promised us - if we believe in His son, Jesus as our saviour, that we will be with them through eternity.
I don't understand how others who believe in Gods that are not, and can not live, or are just mortals believe they can offer them anything. How can a rock statue give you anything or a mere man like us offer us anything beyond ourselves? The Latter Day Saints believe that if you work to be perfect than you will be rewarded with Virgins. I don't know what the women are supposed to get. Sounds silly to me.

If there is, there is. If there isn't, there isn't. No conclusive evidence of either side. Think of it as an adventure when you go. ;P
