I prefer living (alive, in a pot) Even as a child, it always broke my heart to see all the once-decorated-but-no-longer-wanted Christmas trees tossed and abandoned on the side of the road. Go figure.
For years, we used a live, potted pine that was very "Charlie Brown" like. It grew as my daughter did. I would forget about it till November of every year, and begin to care for it again. It always came back to life by Christmas. We gave that one away "Free to Good Home" when we had to move.
One year I even "rescued" a bushy branch from the grounds of a tree farm (I asked, they gave it to me for free -- I treasured it and my kids thought it was cute too)
We have a 6 foot silk palm tree that we brought back from Hawaii. When we were still on O'ahu, I wrapped little lights around and around the trunk, and somehow I was able to hang decorations from the wide fronds. Sadly, this tree is not Cooper-proof, so we will need to gift it on Freecycle or something.
We'll be using either a coat rack (seriously) as a tree this year, or a couple of the green IKEA decorator trees I scored on Black Friday (on sale for $1.99)

I always get live Christmas tree. The tree smells so good and you don't have to find space for the tree when Christmas is over. The exciting part is finding the right Christmas tree in the yard. Getting a real Christmas is apart of our family tradition in my home.

Artificial. I am allergic to real trees. It' hard for me to string lights on them because I have to stick my arms inside the tree and I will break out in a rash. It's terrible. I like real trees though....they smell so good!

Live trees are the best. There is nothing like the smell and look of a live tree. It's a little more inconvenient, but well worth the effort.

Artificial for me, I'd rather not have a tree die for my decorating pleasure.
