The desk top has a CDRW/DVD and the laptop has a dvd re-writer. I have tried flash drives and CD...It transfers over but sometimes when i come to open the file on laptop windows simply shuts down and restarts.....
I have scanned for viruses..mal-ware etc...the laptop is all clear.
And before you slate vista this is the only problem i've had with it since i've had it...and it's not really a problem.
I'm thinking because i'm trying to transfer video from XP/cd to Vista/dvd this may be the problem.
I don't have trouble transfering other data, such as music and files...only video/movies.
Any sensible ideas would be great.

It is possible that the DVD player does not recognize the file extension of the data that is stored on the CD. Have you tried setting up a small home network. That would make the transferring data a much easier process. You could purchase a small hub or switch and the couple of cat 5 cables that you would need for not very much money. Hubs can be had for around $20, and you can get "made to length" cables from just about any computer repair shop.

I too have been running Vista since it came out and I think it's one fine OS. Fast, secure, and just doesn't blue screen.

till you do it the no-value technique ( flashcontinual or burn dvd: use a DVD-RW ), you'd be spending $20 to 30. There are some USB cables, yet they're particular cables and that i'm fantastically confident you want application with them. i could take the a million to 2 hours and do it Flashcontinual type myself... Eternet is amazingly easy and no-value once you've the equipment already, yet to purchase it continues to be $20 to 30...
