decreasing the pressure of a gas, will reduce its volume, without altering shape of a container, unless the pressure in the container is less than equal to the pressure in the surrounding atmosphere. Then if the strength of the material is small, (i think its its bulk modulus, or volume modulus, that determines its rigidness)
it will change.
But its logically possible to change volume of a gas without shape of container, just get a really strong container and mess with the pressure.
The volume of gas will not take the volume of the container, although in most cases it spreads out like so....
but if a tiny amount of gas was in the container, it would not spread to all edges, and if we halved that amount of gas by reducing pressure, we would not alter the shape.

By the means of your question, the only way to change the volume of the gas is to change the proportion of the container. That is, change the size of the container without changing its shape (example:a small sphere to a bigger sphere).
If you mean: without changing the shape and size of the container, there would be no way to change the volume the container could hold, and thus, change the volume of the gas that it holds. Whatever you do, the gas would fill up the volume of the container. The volume that the container could hold becomes the volume of the gas. Since the container's volume could not be changed, the volume of the gas could not be changed.

No. The gas will fill a container that you have it in. I think of it in terms of its molecules. They will continue to move in a straight line until they hit something. In this case it is either the container or other molecules of the gas. If you somehow start with a small volume of gas the molecules will keep moving outward until you come in contact with the container, hence filling the volume. If you try to increase the volume of the gas by heating the gas will exert pressure on the container but the volume will not increase unless the container expands.

infact volume depends on the dimensions of the container,
and let suppose we have a 5 by 5 by 5 foot cube, the vol of gas in it will be 5*5*5 cubic foot
now if u increase the pressure of gas in cube without changing it dimension the vol will remain same.
an easy example is LPG cylinder, the volume remain same whether it is filled or empty.
and the gas volume stated much greater than the container is actually the volume of container which could retain the same amount of gas with out any pressure i.e at normal pressure.

Depends what you mean by your question. The only way for a gas to change volume as you specify might be to change all dimensions of the container simultaneously e.g get bigger or smaller, without changing the shape, e.g. a sphere grows to become a bigger sphere.

Volume of any gas depend on various parameter such as
1. Presure
2. Temperature
3. No. of moles. Remember Vander waals equation.Thus by changing any of these parametres we can change the volume occupied by the gas without changing the container
