Well I dont know about your preference but I would get a laptop with all the bells and whistles like maybe a Sony Vaio or a Gateway laptop with a duo core processor to make it faster and a note book screen so you can flip it back and write on it you know a touch screen with a stylus now for pictures and music you can find it on any generic laptop But maybe you want to go with the upgrade for windows vista You should upgrade to Ultimate you have to be carefull when you buy a laptop now because they will try to sell you windows vista basic and it sucks there is nothing on it not eaven word or anything i would go with windows vistaHome of windows vista proffesional or get both and get Vista Ultimate that would be the best because its the latest windows you can get but not allot of software are adapted to windows vista mostly for xp and 2000 or millenium but i would go with the vista ultimate Really COOL!

My personal prefrence is Apple, I am getting the 17inch macbook pro for Christmas. I've had PC's and Microsoft ALL my life, and they are a pain! You have viruses that can get easily into them, you have to do about 5 diffrent scans every week. (Not that much, ou get my pic though.) They crash more easily, and just overall have more problems. And as time goes on, it gets slower. I had to borrow my friends mac notebook last year for about a month since my PC was getting fixed and I LOVED it. I foudn it was much easier to use, it never crashed once, and it was just a beautiful notebook! So I would go for the Mac, you can get a desktop or a macbook or macbook pro. Both the macbook andmacbook pro are great. I'd get the macbook if you want to save some money!

Apples are good for only media.
Alienware is now owned by dell....don't buy an alienware.
Don't buy a dell.
Don't buy a sony vaio, the ram slots tend to die.

The best laptop for your money is an Acer. If you game on it and video edit on it, it won't be able to handle it, but if you're watching movies, doing work, listening to music and chatting on the net it works well.

Oh and don't get Vista, pay for the upgrade to XP.
