It takes place in So. Cal. where Hispanics are the majority in Hollywood and African Americans contribute a lot to the economy but you never see them at all, even in the background or "extras."

well, I've been to the areas the show is shot & it's mainly very wealthy white people. They don't hang out where there's a lot of blacks or hispanics. Same could be said for the Hollywood area-full of gays but you don't see them on the show bc they don't spend any time there! They would need to widen the camera shots & send the girls off the Rodeo drive area to see the minorities...

because the show is superficial-they don't represent the REAL LA obviously. It ticks me off-MTV does that alot. Look at the Real World this season-ONE minority-same with Shot At Love, there were only a pinch of minorities on that show. IT REALLY SUCKS. I'd have a lot more appreciation if MTV would embrace other cultures.

For the same reason why Lauren is a lowly intern but lives in a condo that's probably 3 grand plus per month...it ain't real life, baby.

Because the "powers that be" in tvland believe that blacks and hispanics are only needed when a drug dealer or thug need to be shown..Even though blacks and hispanics can be well respected and rich, just like any white character on a show.
