I am 29 weeks and 4 days today.... I had real bad contractions last night, nothing bad enough to send me to the er. Tonight is the full moon, everyone keeps telling me
he'll come tonight". Does anyone know that if its really true the moon cycle has anything to do with women and labor? I've heard this all my life, just haven't really given it thought.
P.S Nothing rude please, I just wanted other people thoughts and facts if they have any.

My great grandmother swore by it. Something about the night of the ninth full moon. And you have the baby within a couple days. I honestly don't know if it really works. I have 3 grown daughters and I never really tried it. Good luck and congrats. And btw, my youngest daughter (19) is 20w6d with my first grandbaby (he's a boy) and I can't hardly wait until she is as far along as you. I am so jealous. LOL

I am 37 weeks right now, and waiting to see if the full moon will have an effect and bring the baby tonight. My first was born on a full moon, but it was also either her due date or the day after.

You are 29 weeks - they would probably try to stop labor for you because you are still pre-term. You still have a few full moons to go through before the baby comes!

I don't know... On one hand because I had my other child on a full moon, because our bodies have such high water contents, etc., I think that it might be valid. On the other hand, though, I have read a few articles today show no scientific data to back up the claim (there were a few posted for and a few against...)

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!!!

I have always heard that there are more baby's born on the full moon day. I don't think it will send your into labor if you are not ready, and especially as early as you are, but I have talked to many L and D nurses (and my mom who is a nurse) and eventhough they can't explain it - they DO have more women in labor on full moon days.
Some say it has to do with the magnetic pull from the moon, which also affects the tides but I"m not sure.

The moon exerts its greatest gravitational force during the full moon -- just look at tidal charts. Allegedly, one the beliefs that babies will come on a full moon is because of the "pull" of the fluids as the moon "pulls" the tides.

While many people say the moon's influence is merely anecdotal, the police and workers in psychiatric hospitals will tell you business is quite brisk on a full moon. Luna - lunacy.

The bottom line is this: You'll know yourself tonight, won't you?

Please let us all know what happens...And good luck and congratulations.

I certainly think the moon cycle has something to do with labor. But, your body and the baby have to be ready as well. I'm guessing there are quite a few women who will go into labor tonight...

I asked that question once when I was in the hospital having a baby (not on a full moon but near that time) and they said that it does get busy on the maternity ward when there is a full moon. My Mom says it's true and she used to be a midwife's assistant.

There doesn't seem to be any scientific evidence to prove why this is, but ask any nurse in labor and delivery and I think most will tell you that nights with full moons seem to have more babies born than any other. I know several nurses and all have said this.

I don't know about the full moon, but my water broke on a day that we were expecting a really bad cold front. That night we had really bad thunderstorms with tornadoes.

I don't think the full moon affects anything...old superstition or something. Let's hope your baby doesn't come tonight! A little early for that. Best of luck!
