Cylcone is another word for hurricane. They start as tropical storms. Over warm waters near the equator. A cyclone is caused by tectonic and atmospheric conditions. Cyclones start as a low depression on the seas surface then build up and move inland, slowly breaking up. Thats why cyclones are found along the coast and not right inland. Cyclones are in categories just like hurricanes or typhoons.

The warm moisture from oceans rises high in the atmosphere. Then the winds begin to circle. They circle clockwise in the south of the equator and counterclockwise north of it.

Hurricanes grow stronger if the ocean is more than 79F. When the water gets cooler than 79F hurricanes slows down.

I hope this helps :)

Cyclone Formation or Cyclogenesis is the development or strengthening of cyclonic circulation in the atmosphere (a low pressure area). Cyclogenesis is an umbrella term for several different processes, all of which result in the development of some sort of cyclone. It can occur at various scales, from the microscale to the synoptic scale. Extratropical cyclones form as waves along weather fronts before occluding later in their life cycle as cold core cyclones. Tropical cyclones form due to latent heat driven by significant thunderstorm activity, and are warm core. Mesocyclones form as warm core cyclones over land, and can led to tornado formation. Waterspouts can also form from mesocyclones, but more often develop from environments of high instability and low vertical wind shear. Cyclogenesis is the opposite of cyclolysis, and has an anticyclonic (high pressure system) equivalent which deals with the formation of high pressure areas—Anticyclogenesis.

The tropical revolving storms forming in the Indian ocean are called cyclones and are similar to hurricanes.Cyclones form in certain favourable atmospheric and oceanic conditions. There are marked seasonal variations in their places of origin, tracks and intensities.
Warm water surface, moisture in the air, steep lapse rate and a wind pattern near the ocean surface that causes a whirling motion are the essential conditions for the formation of these storms.
They usually form in the inter-tropical convergence zone, where the tropical airmasses from the either hemisphere meet. These air masses are warm and humid and have a favourable lapse rate upto great heights. Therefore convection starts on a large scale developing into a cyclone. The energy of the cyclone is derived from the latent heat of condensation of the ascending moist air.

Dear Cat.B,

Cylcones develope because, when cold air and hot air combinde together it makes a huge cloud of strong winds and rain.
