...called "I started a joke". This Q maybe random but lately its bugging me so I have to ask. I just don't get it. Worst is when I ask my father about the song he only replied to me "it was used as the theme song for Romeo and Juliet (the old one not the Leo-Claire version)" and that didn't help it only worsen my confussion. At first I thought the song was all about a person that felt out-of-place (lol)... but still I'm not convinced. To anybody who have heard this song, enlighten me please?

I STARTED A JOKE (1968)

ROBIN GIBB: The idea for the song came when I was sitting on a plane over Germany, and I heard a melody in the droning of the engine. As soon as I got on the ground that night I completed the song with Barry and Maurice. To me, that was a very spiritual song, about faith and survival in life. It wasn't a love song, it was one of the first songs we wrote about struggling to survive emotionally alone in the world.

I think it is about feeling alone even though you are the catalyst of fun for the group. You start out being the center of attention and then are left by the wayside. Maybe it is just about being alone.
