I am 37 weeks pregnant with my first baby. Thursday night I was having really bad pains in my abdomen and some contracting. Yesterday my back hurt all day long. It wasn't just my lower back though.. It was more lower to mid back pain. Then the contractions started up again. I am trying to keep track of them but in between the contractions I am having period like cramping that hurts so bad that I end up tightening my stomach up myself. I hve an appointment on Monday that I am trying to hold out for. I don't really care to sit in the hospital for 5 hours just to be sent home again. Any ideas if this is labor? I have been about 50% effaced for a month now. Not sure if I am dilated. Will find out Monday,

Most likely your body is "practicing" labor -- getting warmed up through Braxton Hicks. You could also be going into labor, your first baby can take a while. However, this is normal, and when you really can't stand it, go to the hospital or call your doctor. In the meantime, take a nice long bath and see if you can fall asleep. If you have contractions you absolutely can't sleep through, then you are probably moving into real labor. (And hey, if you are having your labor at home instead of at the hospital, you are doing fabulously!)

I would not wait until Monday. There is too much to worry about and you have gone too far to take any chances. Wouldn't you prefer to find out that everything is ok instead of worrying? If everything is not ok you will be kicking yourself on Monday. Go to the hospital or at the very least, call your doctor and get some advise. The nurses can help you too.
At the very least you can call the ob dept. of the hospital and they can help you too.

If the contractions are not getting any slower, and theyre only growing in intensity you are in labor.

The period like cramps are you cervix changing.

Lay down with some water and rest and see if they stop. If they just keep coming strong like this for more than a couple hours its safe to assume its labor.

You should call your doctor just to make sure everything is alright since you seem to be in pain. If the office is closed today they normally have an on-call doctor and the number is listed on the voicemail. If all else fails, you'll need to go to the emergency room.

It could be Braxton Hicks; however, they are normally in the buttocks/vaginal region and are irregular.

bh contractions will go away with movement.. like, you getting up and walking, or switching positions. they will be a much stronger contraction, that radiates through. and, they wont be erratic. they will come every 10 minutes on the dot, 5 min..etc.. when they are like that for an hour or more, then its possible your in labor. also try taking a warm bath if the pains go away than they are BH ...

I am assuming you DIDN'T take Castrol Motor Oil? :-) Taking any kind of "hard work support" has it is cons in relation to being pregnant: it won't honestly placed you into hard work. You could have a few digestive disorders for a couple of days as good as Braxton-Hicks contractions however you can also no longer honestly cross into actual hard work. (I don't forget this no longer-so-fondly in the course of my being pregnant and a few highly spiced meals!) If your digestive disorders don't absolve themselves inside an afternoon or 2 (typical for a digestive support to take its path) with steady bowel hobbies, it might be clever to touch your OB to endorse them of this within the occasion of any additional disorders. In the imply time you have got to be unique you're feeling your youngster kick. Natural sleep cycles will motive a slowing on this, however you'll nonetheless suppose motion and kicking. Even your youngster's aversion in your up to date nutritional offerings shall be affected, but it surely will have to not ever be hazardous. And as for hard work, in case your "cramps" (from any one who not ever felt actual contractions till later within the health facility) or contractions are at steady periods and emerge as nearer in combination, inside five-10 mins, you'll have your apparatus packed up an take a travel to the health facility.

You NEED to go to the hospital!! When I had my kids I had them 2-3 weeks early. I only cramped as if I was on my period. Don't take any chances and take your stuff and go. This might be the day!!! Good Luck!

LOL this is not a question to be sitting at your computer asking. This is what we would call ... "a good time to go see your OBGYN!"

You can have Braxton Hicks contractions and feel the pain in your back. My sister never felt any contractions anywhere but her back until right before pushing!
