Telling you how much he cares and shaking his head from side to side (no) as he said it. Very reassuring. By the way I am not a liberal voter just a realist who bases opinion on personal experience and then researches the facts from all sources extensively (not the media inaccuracies) before I make any comment.

Lighten up! What does it matter what you read into Rudd's "body language"? The Liberal Party have gone! If you have really researched the facts you will know what a sorry bunch of lying, cheating, self-serving, arrogant dogs we have just divested ourselves of. It is a great day for Australia.

Yes but what does it matter it was rehearsed it was not him his hand motions were so contrived.
I'm not celebrating the Libs still control the Senate so work choices isn't dead yet neither are any of their unpopular imposts.
Minchin said as much last night that they will block, block and block again any thing they feel isn't in the countries interests. Government by obstruction. They won't go easily.

are you aware .. that there are many other cultures that when they shake their heads from side to side .. it actually means yes ..

Many Asian cultures .. and a Greek woman I work with said that they also shake their heads when they mean yes ..

maybe our reading of western body language needs to be updated .. particularily given that we have so many other groups of people other than ourselves here....?

Maybe he was shaking his head because he was still not believing he had it in the bag ..

for whatever reason .. I have to say I wasn't aware that he was doing it.

EDIT:
I just watched his first press conference .. and I paid attention .. and what he does is look from side to side .. looking people in the eye ( a body language sign of being fairly trust worthy) .. and he also *ping-pongs* .. ( my term ) he nods his head and it *bounces* like a ping-pong ball..

Not a BAD thing .. just looks odd when you are paying close attention.

but so FAR .. he comes across as honest.

I think you're reading too much into it, Irene. I'm not in love with K-Rudd either, but I do think this new government is a breath of fresh air. Australia desperately needed a change, which is why Rudd won such a resounding victory.

To "Yo it's Me" who asks who is Kevin:

a "nobody" who the crushing majority of Australian voters thought was good enough to send the Liberals tumbling to the other side of the House.

He better not **** this up or I will personally visit him with a blunt spoon ready to make some corrective surgery on that fake-ass smile.
