My doctor told me to try the castor oil. He said if the baby was ready, that would work. If the baby wasn't ready, it wouldn't hurt and it wouldn't work. It didn't work. The baby came when he was ready. Relax! Have patience!

Here is my Castor Oil story...my son was born 7 days ago, the night I went into Labour, I took 2 tbs of Castor Oil at 11 pm, hoping it would put me into Labour. By 2:30am the next morning I was arriving at the hospital, with very strong contractions. I was a 4 at 3:00am, and I was at 10 by 5am. I dialated 6 cms in 2 hours. It went very fast, and I believe that the Castor Oil violently shoved me into Labour. I was also pooping on the bed. I had very strong contractions, to the point where I was screaming. I will never take Castor Oil again. I believe that it made my Labour go much faster then my body was really prepared for. I also had a 10lb, 3 ounce baby come out of me.

If it hasn't started contractions by now it wont.... with my first pregnancy i took castor oil and it sent me into labor an hour later (i had diarrhea) and i had my son 12 hours later. With my second pregnancy, NOTHING! It didn't do anything and i was so disappointed... i even took more and still nothing. Now i'm pregnant with #3 and i dont think ill be doing it this time around, i want things to just happen naturally. Good luck tho... maybe some other things will work. Lots of sex works!!! Also spicy food, in conjunction with sex and castor oil. That was the mix that night that sent me into labor. But you wont want any sex after the castor oil so make sure you get plenty of that before you drink that stuff down lmao.

Well, I have heard that castor oil is supposed to work and it has on some people and not on others. I would just walk alot if you can, keep yourself busy just doing anything that is going to work you up, even if it is washing clothes and cleaning the house. Just keep doing something that keeps that energy flowing and keep moving around, the baby will soon be here.

maegs33 is 100% right
i wrote this in response to an earlier question but it applies here as well
Quote:
Hi, this is a great question.
The normal gestational period for a human is actually between 38 and 42 weeks, the average is 40 weeks, which unfortunately has generated alot of confusion amongst mothers these days, who think if they are over 40 weeks, they are over due.
this is not the case at all, as every baby develops at a different rate, and it is the baby, when it has finished its development, that signals for birth to start.
The biggest problem amongst all this is the Doctors ignorance in most cases, in believing that Babies are supposed to be born at 40 weeks. This is not the case at all, say for example a baby was induced to be born at 40 weeks on the mark, it may turn out to have breathing difficulties, as the lungs are not fully developed until the last week or 2 of life.
so basically you have prevented the babies lungs from forming completely by having the baby too early.
This will obviously impact the childs growth and development in the future.
Now, some babies are fully developed at 38 weeks, remembering that each baby develops at its own pace, this would be around the 9th month mark, where as 42 weeks would definitely be in the 10 months mark.
42 months, is not considered overdue, basically between 38 and 42 weeks is considered full term. this is because it is impossible to correctly estimate the exact date the child will be born, as there are many factors that requiring to be taken into the equation.
pregnancies that continue past this are considered as Over due.
some women have had pregnancies which have lasted up to 47 weeks, and again, this is all because of how the baby develops, i still don't see this as a major problem, as long as the baby is fine, these women are not abnormal in anyway, they just don't fit into what is defined as a normal pregnancy, the baby may just be developing slower then what babies usually do..
There is a semi factual bit of misinformation going around that says a womans placenta starts to break down after 42 weeks.
this is infact untrue, it MAY begin to break down, but it also may not, this is why any babies carried past the 42 week mark will be closely monitored for distress by your dr or the nurse assigned to you.
women should not be afraid that being overdue can result in giving birth to overcooked aka over large babies. as i have said before, the baby's developmental progress in the womb will determine when the child is born. as the woman that reportedly went to 47 weeks had a 9pound baby, as opposed to the 12 pound baby some women are scared would happen.
:End Quote
Past that, there have been cases of the placenta not separating from the uteral wall properly due to inducing, and by having 1 inducement, your more likely to require 1 for your next baby.

Walking is a great way to get a baby out. You could also go to the acupuncturist. That is what I did for my last baby. He was also three weeks late and I was getting very impatient. I tried castor oil twice and it just made me so ill! If the acupuncturist didn’t actually induce labor it made me feel more calm and relaxed. Being stressed doesn’t help when your waiting for a baby!

The castor oil did not work for me either. I walked and walked or rather wobbled and wobbled, lol. That worked for me after a few days. I woke up with contractions and they started leaving afte 6 hours! I was like 'OH NO YOU DONT" and i walked and wobbeled until they came back. That was how my labour started

Castor oil cleans you out. It doesn't cause contractions, it is supposed to clean your bowel out in order to leave room for the baby to move down more.

I'm going to tell you something you don't want to hear:
The baby will come when it's ready.
With my last baby I tried EVERYTHING, yes, everything, including all the suggestions from the other answers. Nothing worked. My husband was sick of having to 'do the deed.' NOTHING worked. As usual, the baby came when the baby was ready.
It's better for you and it's better for the baby for the baby to come naturally. You will have an easier labor if you let the baby come when it's supposed to. I KNOW you're miserable, we've all been there, but it's impossible to stay pregnant forever.

Sex is a good one. The sperm helps to break down your plug and soften the cervix.
Walk as much as you are comfortable doing. My 2nd son, was due around a week after Christmas. I did a bit of walking for Christmas shopping.
It worked even better for my best friend. We walked laps together around the neighborhood. She went into labor on the way back and gave birth the next morning.
