I think they are guilty of exploiting in most cases.

I guess there are elements of both present. You probably are too young to remember the show "Queen for a Day," which showered gifts on the biggest sob story of the day. You make a trade by appearing on some of those shows -- you do give up a little dignity at the chance at a life-changing amount of money.

For example, "Deal or No Deal" can lay it on a little thick in spots, but I think it tries to be sensitive to its guests when possible.

I don't see how it would hurt POOR PERSON TO WIN SOME MONEY SO i WOULD HAVE TO Say helping. Wish this poor person could have AN OPPORTUNITY.
