a nintendo ds is probably the best idea if she doesn't have one. otherwise an mp3 player or cd walkman or boombox. if these are out of budget than some nice makeup or maybe a nice drawing kit or bead necklace kit. gift cards are great and possible the most wanted at that age. but they do seem impersonal. some stores let you buy nice little stuffed animals to hold your card or very fancy tins to put them in. it makes it feel a little more like you did more than stuff a card in an envelope. but at 9 they usually don't care as long as they have the choice to get what they want.

A gift card to a place like Claire's might be good. Also, you could get her some lotions or Bonnie Bell Lip Smackers. Or you could just get her a gift card to Target or some department store because she's at the age where I know she'd love being able to shop for herself.
