Considering the deeply rooted colorism among Dominicans, where most of this Afro-descendant population is ashamed of their African physical traits. I read an article at how the women in the Dominican Republic with coarser hair were often degraded for it. The Dominican salons in the US are usually really good with African-descended hair types, but the one in my neighborhood will not do coarse hair. They have demanded that some people not return, and have even laughed a few ladies out of their shop. However, it places like New York and New Jersey, it's the best type a salon for a woman with coarse hair to go.

Their is such as stigma among Dominicans in regards to features that I would not doubt their disgust towards Haitians, who are mostly dark skinned, very sub-Saharan, looking people.

It's been said that the Haitian population is more purely sub-Saharan Bantu than in some regions in West Africa.

I think that Dominicans must have some contempt for the more darker features of most Haitians, features that are ridiculed and shamed in the Dominican Republic.

The two countries have two separate ideals of aesthetic beauty which stems from one being Black ruled and the other being White ruled.

Well, there is no love lost with Dominican Republic for Haiti. Dominican Republic is relevantly affluent compared to Haiti. The desperately poor Haitians are always illegally crossing the border in search of work. The Dominicans are not particularly fond of Haitians.

A lot of Canadians aren't crazy about many of the Haitians who live in Montreal, either.
