Make sure that you submitted the address of your sitemap correctly, and of course the sitemap should be placed in your public_html folder at your server with the same address (sitemap.xml).
For Google it should look like: http://www.yoursitename.com/sitemap.xml
If you need to start again, I suggest you use this site:
http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/
It's free and comes with a comprehensive set of instructions.

Google can't find your sitemap.
It looks like the sitemap hasn't been uploaded correctly.
You need to upload your sitemap to the top level of the site you're sitemapping and then enter the full uri of the sitemap:
e.g. http://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml
into the box.

type in site map URL correctly or Just Google support for Help!
