First, they should re-sign Kerry Wood to a 3 year contract. He showed me he can still pitch. Yes, the cubs should sign Kaz Matsui even though they have a crowded infield. Realistically, do the cubs really need another starting pitcher? They have Zambrano, Lilly, Marqis, Hill, Marshall, Hart, Gahllager, and possibily Dempster and Prior. That is 7-9 pitchers for a 5 man rotation. I guess i the Cubs sign or trade for a decent pitcher it would be fine. I think there is no need to get a catcher, Soto will be fine. Now there biggest need is a right fielder. I have no problem with Pie in center but he would be the only lefty hitter in the lineup, aside from maybe Matsui. Well, the first option is the guy from japan. I think Carl Crawford would be a better fit. I would think if we gave up Marshall, Weartz, Ohman, and probably a minor league hitter to the Rays.
Well, what do we have:
1. Zambrano
2.Lilly
3.Marquis
4.Hill
5.Take your pick
1.Crawford
2.Pie
3.Soriano
4.Lee
5.Ramirez
6.Derosa
7.Soto
8.Theriot (patience)
9. Pitcher
The bullpen and bench will work itself out in spring training.

The Chicago Cubs do need a better lineup then what they ran out, even in the playoffs. Thier hitters have to try to hit better then what they did, in round #1 of the playoffs against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Another thing is that they have to do is try to keep thier starters in the ball games even longer, cause the longer they are in the game, the less they have to use thier bullpen, and that can happen where the bullpen falls apart. If Jim Hendry wants to get free angents lured to Chicago, and to the Cubs, he has to go out and try to lure players to come to Chicago to play baseball for the Chicago Cubs. If he sits around on his butt, the ree agents will sign to other teams, when he could have signed them to the Cubs himself.

I would love to see them come up with a package to get Cabrera and Willits, but I don't think that will happen. They'd have to give up way too much.
Unfortunately, I think they may throw their hats in the ring for the Andruw Jones sweepstakes. although it looks more likely that Texas is all over him.
Cubs need to get a deal done with Kaz Matsui, so that they can sign one of those left handed power hitting outfielders from Japan. But they need another good starting arm, hence my thoughts on Willits.

Better consistent starting piching, Middle relief right and left handed...A better better closer then Dumpster. Outfield help such as a lead off hitter that does not strike out so much and gets on base. New Hitting coach to increase the teams On base Percentage and stop striking out so much

I think they should sign Aaron Rownad.
Sign a starting pitcher like Carlos Silva or Randy Wolf or Kenny Rogers a solid #4 starter who can give them quality starts.
