It's rather late in the day to ask as to why we have come to this world, after having been here for quite some time. How would you like anybody asking after landing in say,Miami or New york ,why he has come there? That apart, the life has to have a meaning, then an aim and goals.Depending upon the circumstances, personal perspective, ambition ,aptitude and a host of allied considerations, each of us has to work out as what we should strive for in our lives.Parents, teachers, well wisher, career guides ,role models and our own perceptions propel us to choose what we want to do in our lives. No, it's not a sin to ignore a father who doesn't support your choice of a vocation but think ,"do you have it in YOU to achieve what you want",or "is it the best you can do" ?It's a highly personalized question and every body has to have his/her own take on it.It's quite common for young people to keep shifting their choice of a career and it's during such indecisive but formative years that external guidance, like from parents is advisable but is not compulsory.

The goal should be whatever you make it to be.
You can achieve it by finding steps that can help you reach it.
No, you don't have to do what you parents say. But if they are wise people, listen to their advise.
Determining what is a sin is up to you. But if it was me, I would ignore the father and follow my own path. Though that is difficult if you live with your father.

for many reasons -
(firstly, I must correct it - we haven't come, we are brought to this World)
- Biologically - to grow & finally get extinct
- Philosophically - to serve the duties of mankind
- Spiritually - to serve the Destiny
- for selfish reason - to earn name & fame
and so on
These are my very favorite lines - I would like to share -
The
simplest questions
are the most profound.
Where were you born? Where is your home?
Where are you going?
What are you doing?
Think about these
once in awhile, and
watch your answers
change.

We came to this world to learn our lessons, and save our brothers and sisters who are lost in this sea of suffering. The goal of our life is to return home to heaven, and we achieve it by living a life like that of mohandas ghandi, like what varun said.
and yes it is a sin not to obey your father. filial piety is the mother of all good deeds. this is the place you should start.

please enjoy this translated song from an Indian movie.
"did my parents take my nod before they gave birth to me
did my son take my yes before he took birth in this world
why you are born, my son?
Even before i could make out the reason of my birth
why you also was born in this world?"
My friend, i could understand your desperateness of this birth. But tell me what is not available in this world. Everthing is there and it is your chioce to pick. Your choice is yours and need not worry about other's choice. We all are visitors to this earth and nothing is expected from you but to simply come , observe and go. Life before birth and after death are still unknown areas which every religion tries to define. So make out your own goals for existence.

Every one of us has duty to perform in this world.. thats y we have come. i believe that we have to do our duty without worrying about the result. There are certain situations in life where the result is not in our hands.. in such cases we will have to do our duty and wait for the result and accept it.
