The method is insanely simple...
you start with your left hand on the letters a,s,d & f and your right hand on the letters j,k,l and ;. Look at where each letter or charachter is in relation to each finger. Practice by copying a book, maybe, until you can do it without looking at the keyboard much. Good Luck.

Get Mavis Beacon, keyboarding typing program.
If you really want to do it on your own then you are going to have to come up with your own technique and it probably won't get you 60-70 words a mintue like some really high speed typers get.

first learn which finger is used for which key, feel for the 2 bumps on the F and J key (this is where you rest your fingers)then keep typing "the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog" at first look at your fingers, then try to look away while you type. about 1000 times should fix it in your memory. thats how i learnt to type.

ok type a to z like a thousand times.. on word or whatever.. then start typing words.. just type whatever u think.. or take a book out and put it in front of you and START TYPING like a crazy person!!! LOL..
practice makes perfect.. so just keep typing.. a good way.. communicate!! get msn and talk to someone.. and keep talking!!! lol..
