I need a new hobby. I have spent WAY too much time on this damn computer and I need something new that will involve my hands and mind, and hopefully produce something interesting and eyecatching. I have about $400 for startup. Don't say foreign language, instrument or knitting. Not saying those aren't cool, they just aren't for me. I can't draw or paint or air brush or any of that.

I would like to do something like take a motorclycle apart and fix it up but I don't have any know how. I mean I can take it apart and put it back together but wouldn't really know what is broken. I can weld but don't have a welder, I can do body work (3 months in a body shop) but I don't have the tools.

Anyone have any ideas I can look into and see if I would like it. Keeping in mind that I live in a little town in the of no where Kansas. So I can't run to a supply store everyday pr something. I have a garage I can work on stuff in. And alot of tools.

Your local adult ed will probably have night courses in car repair or motorcycle repair. Go to your school department website and look for adult ed or continuing ed.

You want to use your hands. This is not lame and busy hands create a busy mind. Mystery jigsaw are lots of fun, especially if you do not read the answer. Buy some poster board and make a collage from nature, yes I did say that. The model trains suggestion is good. Go to the library sit and observe the people. What types of books do people read. Volunteer at the Humane Society, do you like history, join a Historical Society, help build a home, become a Big Brother and let a child show you fun. Learn billiards and get into competions, join a bowling team.
I think you are so bored that you really do not know what you want. These ideas in any combination will get you going and off the computer. Have Fun!

Hello. Maybe model cars/bikes? Actually, though you don't feel confident as a painter etc., and may not see your self as an artist, you should try some sculpture. Get your various parts and wire them together, make a statement. Or since you are online alot, and can obviously read, why not try writing some short stories. Um, I find it rewarding to grow flowers, and I love to cook. If you like food, working with it is super fun. A great cook gets a lot of fans, and the goodies are very eye catching. Do you have any friends or relatives with skills/tools/interests? Because it can be fun to try to figure out how you can blend them into a project together, and someone else may just have the missing element. Good luck.

Here's a hobby that I love and all you need is a web-connected computer, a color printer, and some Elmer's glue. It's the little-known subculture of downloadable card models. There are literally thousands of free downloads (usually .pdf files) that you can find of "paper" models to build. Actually, you normally print them on cardstock. While some are as tacky as you might think, many are amazingly detailed and look about as good as the store-bought variety. I like the fact that they require no painting. The airplanes and airships look great hanging from the ceiling, too. You mentioned motorcyles. Yamaha has a site with several of the coolest card models on the web. I'm putting some links below to some of the coolest sites and some with lots of links.

Model railroading would be good choice. You can be as creative or subtle as you choose. You can pick any era, railroad, setting, etc. Totally up to you. Additionally the UP (Union Pacific) and BNSF (Burlington Northern-Santa Fe) both have trackage through Kansas. Go watch some real trains and see if they perk your curiosity and interest.

Digital photography is another fun thing to get into. You can get a pretty decent camera for a ~ three hundred bucks and use the rest of the $400 on software to edit your work.

Good luck!

Do you like to work outdoors? You could start up a landscaping business...invest in yourself. $400.00 should get you a weed eater, a lawnmower and probably a couple of those magnets that go on vehicle doors. Name your company something catchy and design you a logo. something like JMS Lawn Services....when people ask what the JMS stands for, tell them Just My Self.

I've JUST got to share here...I saw a truck the other day, a BIG truck with a hose that empties septic tanks...their company motto was painted on all sides of their truck, it read......"We're #1 in the #2 business". How clever is THAT?

Since you have a garage and tools..do you know anything about small engine repair?

You can order supplies online and have them shipped. Online prices and selection are usually better anyway.
I like Model Railroading.
