I go snowboarding an average of 10 times a year. I have a crappy snowboard thats works for me and bindings that just broke (they were all plastic). I want new bindings, but I don't want to spend a fortune. However, I don't want junk that will break the 3rd time I use it (I don't do the terrain park thing...I just go down the hill.) I've heard bindings are better if they are made out of metal in the heel area...is this true? Anyway, any help in picking out a new pair of bindings would be appreciated....thanks!

The heel and the high-back contribute to the rigidity and stiffness of the binding and how much "flex" you feel when applying pressure to the heel edge. High end bindings will have stiffer materials in the heel and in the buckles, but there are also many bindings that use metal buckles in their entry or intermediate bindings.

I would suggest a binding with metal frames and metal buckles.I like the Ride EX bindings - a good binding with quality hardware that will last.

Good Luck

Just be careful to check into the warranty coverage before you buy. Some manufacturers will cover main components for life. Check this: http://www.technine.com/warranty.html Also, if you buy from a local shop that is an authorized dealer for that brand, you will have easier access to any warranty claims. Even high-end bindings break: the difference is in how easy it it to get new parts or new bindings.

Go on E-bay and look for Ride bindings. They're top quality without the Burton price. Go with SPI best bang for the buck or EX for value.

there are a ton of different bindings. go to your local rental shop and try them all out. usually, if it's slow and they know you are a local, it's free or next to free. try them all and see what you like. every one has they're own preference. to stop breakage, make sure any rough spots on your boots don't rub the binding and don't bind too tight cause you will strain any material.
