i prefer slaughter too. decapitate is too gross. i'm more into the descriptive of something i can write about.

slaughter doesnt mean multiple deaths, it means a purposefull determined killing, often considered very brutal, we slaughter animals to eat, not considering any pain they may suffer, some people slaughter other people,
decapitate means taking the head off

'Which', which word! You don't ask what, there is a choice in the question.
Both words have ring of the macabre, but I like the word 'slaughter', it's originally just a butcher (but not that kind!).
