This is the Third Law of Newton. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. It is just like shooting a gun. The kickback that you feel is the same force that propels the bullet forward. The force is the same but the result is different according to Newton's Second Law. F = ma. The bullet has a lot less mass, hence a lot more acceleration.
