In a true democracy, the citizens run everything directly. They vote on all issues. They don't need laws since they can vote for whatever they want. Pure democracy is chaos.

In the US we have a representative republic. We elect legislators to write laws. The government runs the country, rather than citizens doing it directly.

It is a republic, controlled by a central government, rather than a democracy, controlled by the people. This is a pseudo democracy, the people think they rule but they do not. In fact the President is not elected by the people, but by the Electoral College.
In 2000, GWB lost the popular vote, but won the electoral and won the election.

We never switched. We have always been a Representative Democracy. Which means that we elect people to represent our opinions and views. Now whether they actually do or not is a different question.

Most of the time, it seems, politicians tell us what we want to hear during election years then quickly forget the promises they make until the next upcoming election year when their jobs are back on the line. Its pretty crappy in my opinion.

Greed.

Republicans are all for their own republic, before they are whats best for America.

But then, hasnt that always been the problem with government.
Those born intomoney and power only wanting more money and power?

Democrats/liberals whatever they call the other side, has always been for the betterment of the country as a whole, and not just a portion of the rich, as the republicans goal has always been.

If you really wnt to see the difference...look at who supports bush, after all his mistakes.
The same people that are profiting somehow off the lives of our soldiers.
Bush doesnt feel accountable to the people that elected him...no questions for him.
And republicans support that mentality.
They seem to think they are above the law everyone else should stick to.

Republicans are and always will be republican first, then whats best for america .. when it suits them

Democrats are for accountablility to the public.
Life libererty and thepursuit of happiness for all..not just the priveledged few.
Democrats believe that its a collective effort....and we should contribute to pay taxes to fix our common issues.
Where republicans hate to pay taxes....when the ironic thing is republicans do more to embezzle or give frivilous contracts away misusing that tax money.
