It is never completely 100% closed, there is always an opening, but most of the time that opening is not large enough to pass anything of any substantial size through the passage, only a few millimeters at most.

If it were closed completely, sperm and menstrual flow would not be able to pass through.

Actually your cervix opens and closes throughout your monthly cycle. It's definetly closed and positioned higher and to the back during pregnancy for protection etc.

Before you ovulate each month your cervix drops down, and will open up slightly giving you prime time to get preggy, then generally around the day you actually ovulate it moves up and closes more, making it more difficult to get pregnant as the swimmers have less access.

Your cervix is closed from the time you ovulate to the time your period starts. and then you start over again. It's a little more 33% open 66 % closed

Pregnant or not, a woman's cervix is closed. It's only open when a pregnant woman is near term getting ready for the stages of delivery.

Unless, a woman has a defective cervix such as in cases of tumors, myomas, etc, then her cervix may open and cause abnormal vaginal bleeding.

The cervix closes after ovulation, and remains that way if she is pregnant, in order to protect the embryo. Of course, there is always a tiny opening, but it is noticeably wider before ovulation.

It's never fully closed. If you track your cycles you will see that your cervix opens and closes throughout the month depending on when you ovulated.

When pregnant, it is closed and high and protected by a mucus plug.

It is closed with a mucus plug until you are ready to give birth to protect the baby.
