Is this a trick question?
Common sense should tell you that it is in the interest of you health to have good hygiene, washing hands before meals ensures that you are not going to injest any harmful bacteria which you may have picked up though touching unclean surfaces, such as hand rails in public places like the tube or shopping trolly handles.

I think you are being silly.
I shall tell you just in case you do not know. Your hands pick up all sorts of nasty bacteria and contaminants during the course of your day. Ingesting these via eating could potentially harm your health. Washing your ends simply removes most of them so you reduce your chance of getting ill.
