True. This caused him to be looked down upon by the military establishment when first joined the French army. There was an excellent documentary on BBC TV a couple of weeks ago made, I think, in conjunction with the History Channel, which dealt with this part of Napoleon's early life and the struggles he had to contend with to get his plans for raising the British siege of Toulon lifted.
