Hurricanes come along every year, though they don't usually hit the Winter Park area directly. At the worst, there is usually just some wind damage and you may have to evacuate from time to time as a precaution. My car got smashed by a tree branch once(thankfully I wasn't in it at the time), but that's it for me. On occasion, a full blown hurricane may hit the area, but its not a common occurence.

Hurricanes rarely hit Winter Park, maybe once every 20-30 years. However, hurricane force winds can seriously effect Winter Park since it is an older section of Orlando with many large beautiful trees that when not properly trimmed down power lines and block streets. During the most recent hurricane to hit in 2004, power was out longer in Winter Park area then other newer areas where power lines are under ground.
