Cold airmass is denser than a warm airmass.Hence cold airmass can easily push a warm airmass.Water can easily replace air but air can not so easily replace water. The reason is the difference in density. In a cold front , the warm airmass is actively replaced by a cold airmass. So, the cold front is faster.

cold = light = move faster than Warm = heavy = slow.....simple exercise for you to try is...... put on 3 shirts , 3 trousers and run up a steep slope of steps........repeat process with you naked and time both. I believe that you will concur that the second exercise will be more cooler than the first!............do you see what i am saying? cold has less resistance , warm needs to work harder.
