If you are in a hurry to get the cheque cleared you can pay a fee at the bank to have it cleared quicker than the 3 to 5 days. Just ask at the bank.

how long do you want it to take? normally you take the cheque to your bank and pay it into your account and wait 5-7 days. sometimes its quicker. lloyds tsb will charge a fee and call the other persons bank to make sure the money is in there and then clear the cheque that day if you are in a rush.
another way to cash a cheque is to go to somewhere like "cheque changers" where, for a fee, they will cash your cheque for you that day. you just have to take photo id with you.

If you put it in the bank then it will clear in 4 working days - if you dont have a bank account or you want the cash right now, you can take it to a cash chequing place (do a search for your local on google or the yellow pages) and they will cash it. The only thing is that they take a percentage of your cash. so if you are doing that, shop around and get the best rate.

I hope your talking about a check that you know is good for sure. not falling for some scam. NO it does not clear in 5 days. they let you have access to it in 5 days it really takes some times up to two week. if they cash it tell you its good and give you the money. It can still come back . and you have to pay for the check and fees on top of it. you didn't say what kind of check and where its from. if its from a stranger. deposit the check wait a couple of weeks. if you got the check. with the intentions of sending "part" of the money back to some one. IT Is a scam. people don't do that. call the bank that the check is written on. and ask them if the money is there. if they say yes then take it directly to that same bank NOT your own bank. then the fault is on the owner of that account and not your own account.,

You can't yourself... Only your bank can.....Pay it in and wait for clearance 5/6 days. You can get cheques cleared quicker, but it costs . so would only be worth it with large amounts,or real emergencies.....
