It would already have been done a million times over if Selig would allow Rose to be honored by the team on the field.

Personally I find it highly insulting that Jackie Robinson's number is retired for the Reds when he didn't play the first inning for them, and the number of one of their greatest players can't be.

Rose's number will never be used again by anyone who's last name isn't Rose (I believe Pete Rose Jr wore 14 when he was with the Reds four or five years ago) So in a way it has already been retired by Cincinnati.

Its time the commisioner got off his high horse and allowed them to make it offical.

Use drugs all you want and you'll get chance after chance to play again. Gamble and thats it your done completely. I don't believe Rose should be allowed to manage or have a job that has any impact on the team, but he should also recieve the honors that he earned as a player.

Were the Reds to retire Rose's #14, and given his status I'm not sure the commissioner's office would permit that, they would have to conduct the ceremony without Rose (unless the commissioner's office granted him a special waiver allowing him to participate).

No, but they should give that honor to somebody that deserves it, and there are a lot of fans here that feel that Pete Rose doesn't deserved to have his #14 retired by the Cincinnati Reds, now all he can do today is, is to think about what he did was really worth it.

I bet they wont...ooops did i say bet?...lol ...i think they should though no one can ever deny the fact he was 1 of the greatest and hardest playing ball players of all time. With the new steroid era i think people will be able to look past what Pete Rose has done wrong but than again he may never be given the honor or put into the hall of fame in his lifetime ... the sad thing is i think they would rather wait till hes dead and gone....it will be upsetting if he doesnt get his dues while hes still alive!

The Reds should retire from major league baseball and let a triple A team take their spot.

Odds are 8 to 1 against...

Of course not....retiring a jersey is among the highest honors a baseball player can receive. Since Pete Rose acted dis-honorably, why should he be honored? Ohh, because he got a lot of hits...and OJ got a lot of yards....

Without any doubt the answer is 100% yes. The man did very little wrong and people overexaggerate his flaws. I can assure you 99% of people who villify him have done far worse in their lives. It just shows the lack of character in most people and it's disheartening to know that they really don't care about anything but themselves.
