I am a professional Computer Graphic Designer
I spend lots of time to pc everyday
using cdrom, flash drives some time floppies
internet
in my opinion Kasper Sky is one of best in Antivirus
Not slow your system, Blocks everything

For free: goto www.download.com and search for "ad aware" download and install. It's the best free program to get rid of most everything.
To have constant security: I prefer Norton AntiVirus or Spyware Doctor. The others such as Trend Micro or Macafee work.... it's just that they take up more computer resources when running.
I say, start with ad aware and run that, and it'll find most crap on your computer.

Norton, if you are looking for a pay version, otherwise AVG. But Norton is messy to keep and it has update problems and slows down system but it offers a comprehensive protection and there is nothing to match.

depending on the viruses, specified anti-vius is used but the most popular are norton or Mcafee.
For me Mcafee is better than norton

for profesional antivirus: kaspersky
for free antivirus: avg, avast, or antivir they have about the same rating.
