Kate McCann could be jailed for upto 10 years for neglect, according to one of today's papers. Would this be of any benefit to the twins, who have lost their sister?

Yes,

the fact that she has other children should not affect the way she is tried at court (if it goes to court).........

If someone murders someone, rapes, steals ETC should they be given a lighter sentence if they have children...NO! So why shoud Kate McCann...what makes her so special?!

They won't as there is no juristiction for British authorities to get involved. They have already interviewed them and are satisfied that the twins are fine. There would be absolutely no benifit to anyone in charging them.

What about all the other families who were doing the same thing. Only they were using the hotel babysitting service, which I might add is only a listening service. Are they to be condemned too.
NO ONE seems to be coming forward and saying "I was at hotel where McCann's were on holiday" or "I was in Praia da Luz at the same time as McCann's" NOT ONE person has been in the news to say that. Don't you think that rather strange?
We hear plenty on here about what people would or wouldn't do but not one person has admitted being there at that time. There must have been other families who come on Y/A that were there. Or was the ruddy place empty when the McCann's were there. I don't think so. Do you??

YES OF COURSE.
There is probably a lot of Family and Friends that could care for the twins.....after-all they would be better off, if she has neglected her children surely they are better and safer else where.

Children adapt quickly to situations, they don't forget but with help and support the twins can have a great life growing up within a safe environment.

Any parent that neglects their child/children should take their punishment.

SHE IS NO DIFFERENT TO ANY OTHER PERSON THAT COMMITS A CRIME.

THEY SAY COMMIT THE CRIME, DO THE TIME.

Of course losing their mother as well as their big sister would have lasting ramifications for the McCann twins. However, the welfare of the family is not considered in sentencing in other cases, so I don't see why it would be with Kate McCann.

It wouldn't be fair to Kate unless Gerry was jailed too.....they both neglected their kids. How can one be more neglectful than the other? Neither of them was there when they were needed.

It would be fair enough to the twins if both of them were jailed....they could go and start a new life away from the glare etc, with new parents who actually want kids.

Why just Kate? They both made the decision to leave their babies alone that night.

Of course it won't be fair on the twins but thats life. Is it fair of the children of woman in jail? No, but that doesn't mean they aren't meant to be there.

Why just Kate, parents are equally responsible. However, I don't think it will happen, just a splash on the front page to sell the paper, it's just a remark made by somebody. Anyway if she was going to be arrested it would have happened by now, and they surely can't lay the blame on her 100% as Gerry was 50% responsible.

If Kate was to go to prison, surely all the others that left their children by themselves that night including Gerry should go to prison with her. It would be awful if the twins were to lose their mother. My prayers are with Madeleine.

It would be of no benefit to anyone if Kate McCann was jailed. And why her, anyway? Why not anyone of the other parents, who were fortunate enough not to have their child abducted.
I think she's in enough hell as it is.

It would never be 10 years, and then it would have to be both parents not just one.And what about the other ones who left their children.

I don't know much about the case, but if both parents left the kids alone in the room, wouldn't they both be guilty of neglect? Did one of them medicate the kids, or did both of them do it.? Or was the story about the children being drugged false?
