Test your alternator, if it doesnt work, your battery wont hold charge, and cables wont work

Battery 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 Years Old on looks Swollen on the Sides replace it! Check all Cables and Wires at Starter, Starter Solenoid & Battery Clean, Dry & Secure! also Check all Ground Wires & Straps! Bad Diodes in Alternator Will Drain the Battery! Fully Charged Battery shoule show 11.5 to 12.5 Volts, with the engine Running should 12.8 to 13.7 Volts showing that the Alternator is working Properly.

Assuming battery is good and all of its connections you can take a 12-volt test light & connect it to a good ground & the stud on the starter solenoid closest to the engine block (may only be 1 small stud & 1 large stud the large being batt. supply the small being ignition switch signal but it will be the small stud closest to the block usually purple wire) if properly grounded it should light when you turn the key to crank position if it does you have a bad starter, if not the signal comes from th ignition switch thru the neutral safety switch & to the starter

Check your batteries water level first. If you have a dry cell it wont take a charge. If the car wont start with a jump. Then i would check the wiring job you had done recenly.
Also check for any ground problems. Then have your alternator checked after the above has been checked and are in working order.

Your battery might be "dead" if it has not been replaced since the truck was bought. However if you have and the new one is dead, you will need to check your alternator to ensure that its recharging properly. I had a similar problem where I replaced my battery - but the new battery went dead in two days coz the fault was in the alternator.

If you try connecting another battery in parallel and there is no response - ( totally dead - no response from starter motor) - you need to check the fuse for starter motor and the motor itself. Either that or you did not connect the jumper cables properly.

Check the ground cables at the block and the body/frame. Also the + cable somewhere near the firewall junction. It`s a chevy. What do you expect?

Lets break this down...
There are 3 main components to ignition
-STARTER (Turns over slowly and almost starts)
-ALTERNATOR ( Does not take juice and produce amprage)
-BATTERY (Clicking noise)
Those are some possibilities, the only way to know for sure is go up to an autozone borrow thier testing machine and test if youself. *IMPORTANT* when your testing it...look at the Volts and Amps if it doesnt shoot from 8.41 - `12.3 with ease your battery is bad...if it doesn't turn on your engine with machine on and if you volate drops from that its your altnator

You should also check the starter motor. Sometimes the carbon rods got used up and has to be replaced. The can be done at any auto electrician
