ive been having pains in my lower back (my baby is in OP position) as of last tuesday i was around 95% effaced and fully engaged but not dilated. i haven't lost my mucus plug yet but discharge is a lot heavier. I've been experiencing labor symptoms for a few days now but obviously it hasn't happened. today i have had indigestion, nausea, and a terrible headache. does this mean anything? How did you know when your labor began?

You have the finish line in sight and the time is near. When things get really serious you should know it. Contractions begin to get regular and harder and last longer. You may feel pains more in your back than in front. The mucus plug is not always a big globby deal, so don't rely on that. Believe me the real mean business contractions are usually pretty clear. If you feel them in any regular pattern, time how far apart, and how long they last. I have had 6 and I envy you the glorious experience of birth. Nothing in life comes anywhere close to that miracle.

well my first was induction so that doesn't count.
My second has natural spontaneous labour though and started with niggling contractions throughout the day, not painful but enough to make me stop and think. I felt more energised and had a sudden bout of energy to clean the house, do the grocery shopping and pay my husbands employees. I kind of felt a little bit jitterish/agitated and had to keep my hands busy.
I felt really 'full' in the abdomen/groin and like I was going to...well.. have a baby!!lol!
I'd also lost my plug that morning after hubby and I did the 'mattress mambo' and at about 9pm the niggling pains became painful 6min apart contractions like bad bad period cramps.

Nausea, vomitting, diarhea, headaches can all be signs of impending labour but are not an accurate guide as they can be different for everything or non-existent!

You will know when the time comes as it is totally unmistakeable. Something tells your brain that this is it!
Try to keep busy and forget about all those little 'symptoms' and when the time comes you'll know it. Take some paracetamol for your headache and a cool wash cloth over your eyes and lay down and rest. You'll need your energy. Hire some DVD's to keep you amused and rested.

Best of luck

I believe were in the same boat... For the last day and half I've been having contractions that just hurt my lower back and make my stomach hard. They are starting to come more and more... like 10 to 20 minutes apart. I have been nausea and had indigestion too.... plus been going to the bathroom also!! If ya know what I mean. I thought I lost my plug a few weeks back but I believe I was wrong, cause yesterday I lost something I'd never seen before. Maybe were almost there!! Good luck to you!

I had again hard work, so I'm no longer certain if the again pains I had main as much as the significant day had been contractions or simply again affliction. However, I do understand that that used to be so much worse as hard work neared. I additionally began having a host of sizzling flashes. I used to be real hot within. I would pass external in thirty measure climate and it used to be the one factor that might make my epidermis give up burning. The most unearthly factor that occurred used to be that I started to itch. I itched horribly EVERYWHERE. My scalp, my palms, my legs, the backside of my ft... it simply itched. It used to be terrible!
