The only thing that would cause the pedal to go all the way to the floor would be because of a brake fluid leak, or the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir got too low and allowed air to enter the system. As far as the grinding noise...you usually hear sounds like that when you need new brake pads (disc brakes) or brake shoes (drum brakes).
EDIT: Yeah, I agree with the guy that mentioned the bad master cylinder. that would do it too.

If the fluid level in the Brake master cylinder is normal but the pedal sinks to the floor, the brake master cylinder is bad and needs to be replaced. The way it functions is like a syringe. The pedal pushes a plunger that forces the fluid out to the wheel cylinders (also know as slave cylinders) and the fluid closes the brake pads. When the pedal sinks like yours did what happens is the fluid is leaking back behind the plunger instead of going forward to the brakes. The car is not safe to drive as it is but should be towed to the mechanic's shop.
Below is a link to howstuffworks.com and is a primer on brakes.

Lol oh my god everyone is an idiot.. no no don't listen to them
Brake Pedals Fade and go all the way down when you step on it is because WHY? Well
*YOU HAVE AIR IN YOUR BRAKE LINE*
Resolution = Bleed your brake line by...locateing the mater cylinder nut on the back of it un loosin it have someone step on the brake all the way down...tighten/close the nut back have the person pump on the pedal and do this till you feel like you have pressure (should be no more than 5 times)
What this is doing is basically pumping out all the air
For that noise griding it can be a few things...
-Worn out Brake pads
-Warped Rotors or they are loose (need to be bolted tighter)
What causes noise in braking is VIBRATIONS, usually from pads, rotors, calipers.
-Broken bearings have NOTHING to do with any of your problems...what a wheel seal bearing is - TO BEAR MOTION thats what is does why would it do anything with braking?
Braking = STOPING
Bearings= Keeping an object in motion (your wheels)
By the way it does not cost 300 dollars to replace ANY of this

You may have blown out a brake caliper, go around and look for a leak form each one,, you can turn the wheels in the front to help look. Rears, got to get under there. Never get under a car with just the jack holding it, Never. minimum is a jack stand and a jack in slight contact at the same time. Your master cylnder may of also went. I disagree wiht the air theory if it happened suddenly, air usually will build up over time, you will see it coming on.

If youre hearing grinding....then your brake pads are down to the bone. But if they fixed it 5 months ago...then i doubt thats the problem unless you ride your brakes hard. But its most likely the pads

you could have an extremely small penhole in your brake fluid line and causing air to get in but no fluid to get out....or your break booster could be bad....

It sounds like you need new brakes. Hopefully it will not be the rotors too.
