How does a Wireless or non-wireless modem work??

Question

I have Earthlink Highspeed internet and i wanted to get a router so two other computers can use the internet. All three computers are laptops. The modem i have is not wireless, it is just a rugular modem. i do not understand how routers work. Besides the actual router what other equiptment do i have to buy? what is the process i have to go through to get all laptops to have internet??? please help

Hi. You need to get a wire to connect each laptop to the router. They are called either 'Ethernet' or' RJ45' cables. Radio Shack or any electronics store.

beside router, you need to buy switch if u have 3 or more desktop computers in ur home.

So, to get laptop to access internet, u can jz buy wireless router/access point .
Nowadays most laptop have built-in wifi to access internet
