We were talking in History about the fall of the Roman Empire, and somebody said that America seems to be in stages of decline, just like how Rome fell apart. Does anybody agree with this idea?

The values that have bound us together as a nation, like the values that bound Rome are in serious decline. The middle class is shrinking, the poor are getting poorer and the rich are getting richer. Our moral base is in decay, our churches are corrupted and behind our government stands big business. We might become a shell of a country a lot faster than Rome at our current rate of inaction.

The scene of this world is changing, Matt.

Symbolically, it appears that the current world power, the Anglo-American, is made up of iron and clay.
What I am trying to say is ... we have our rulers and governments in position, but the voice of the peoples are just as much present. Now, these two groups don't seem to mix very well. Just like the iron and clay won't mix together!

I have a question then:
Do you think that we might be heading for a global change in leadership and government?

Yes. It is obvious. Expensive foreign wars which need the assistance of mercenaries coupled with increased poverty and economic scandal at home.
The rich line their pockets at the expense of the poorest section of society and all the time potential enemies are getting stronger.
It's a classic scenario.

I think so and I hope so. We have lost most of those qualities which made us strong, which weren't that many to begin with, and now go for appearance more than substance.

In one of those cartoon strips I remember a character saying, "we have met the enemy and it is us".

Like Rome, we sow the seeds of our own destruction.

The three or four philosophers in America seem to think so. The other 270 million are having a ball.
