Evolution simply means adaptation in response to the environment, not progress in any particular direction, so we can't help but evolve. If you mean are we improving, then what is the standard by which we measure improvement? I think things are getting better and worse all the time, depending on what particular qualities you are talking about. Maybe it all evens out in the end. As a species, we are clearly not even toilet-trained yet, so maybe it's a huge victory that we have enough intelligence to even ask the question. On the other hand, we have gore-tex and can grow our on food, yet people continue to eat and wear their neighbors (i.e. everyone else on the planet) and delude themselves that they are better than other animals, so it's a tough call. We'll have to wait and see what the aliens think, if they ever even consider us worth communicating with, which is doubtful.

We haven't unleashed destructive forces as far as humans are concerned. Our population size and longevity speaks to that. We aren't evolving much right now because there is very little selection going on. The gene pool is being mixed up which is very good for the future when some sort of calamity causes selection to reduce the gene pool. We may be smart enough to avoid a calamity but in terms of evolutionary time or tens of thousands of years, that seems unlikely. The silly notions about environmental collapse are nothing more than delusions that afflict every generation of humans. There must be a doomsday gene that hasn't yet been weeded out.

You need to be more specific by destructive forces you could mean factory's or nuke clear bombs , or the internet for all we know. And by evolving I assume you mean genetically and not the population right? The population is always increasing , as for human evolving there is no science to judge that yet so this is just like an opinion question I would say that of course humans are evolving everything slowly evolves but it probably has nothing to do with the destructive forces your talking about.

Human evolution is an on going process and no body can stop it,as it's self regulated and human interference can only expand it's theme or scope. An evolution just doesn't mean to be only progressive but can be regressive as well. The answer to your question can both be a 'Yes' and also a 'No',depending upon what aspects we want to consider. However,in general, human race is evolving for a better future,in spite of what you call, destructive forces.Increased life span, better diet and health care, spreading education, economic growth and increasing internal integration of nations, people ,communities and races, global concern for localized problems, emerging concept of an international citizenship and many more such developments, auger well for the human race. Let's wish and hope for a still better future for human race.

I think we are headed for destruction. The best we can do is try to slow down the process as much as possible.
It will be hard to bring the forces to a halt bcoz those forces bring m,ore money to the reach. They will not by any means stop them just for the sake of the universe but continuie just to amass asmuch wealth as possible!!!

Neither, i think a worse process is at work, we're being
emotionaly herded . . .
at least the apes answer 2 them selves when man ain't interfering, as for humans we 're like hamsters with blind folds on, ever running so we think we're moving foward
only to find when the blind fold is remove'd, we've never
even left the starting gate, just were merely place'd on
the treadmill of an illusion fed 2 us at a time when we all
were most easiest 2 program, CHILDHOOD . . .

Both positive and negative events lead to evolution. Organisms respond to each catalyst. Life is just a chain of events and responses. Mental and physical changes occur in response to what happens.
When times are good, people become lax. When insult occurs, people must change to survive consequences of what ever actions were taken. When our body is hurt or broken, we adjust to survive or some do not survive. Whatever happens, we all continue to evolve.

Evolving, we are still continuing to enhance the human experience, and every time we have a breakthrough we can extend the human lifespan. As well the more we learn the more we can help eachother.

We rely too much on technology. We're actually wasting away. A whopping 2/3 of our culture is obese. We drive to the corner store. We evolved from creatures who walked thousands of miles while following mammoth herds into fat, lazy slobs who need a remote to change the tv channel five feet infront of their fat bodies. Our pollution is doing genetic damage: cancer rates are astronomical compared to what they once were. AND we pollute our own bodies with "medicines". Never were there as many syndromes as there were today, as many "diseases". We expect to be happy all the time, if we have a problem in our lives, we cry to a doctor and numb ourselves with pills. I think humans are getting weak, and it worries me when i think about it.
