I just took a job for a Network Support Specialist and I am close to having my degree in information technology. During my interview the director ask me if I could install software, change print cartridges, change internal pc hardware, and set up email accounts.

I can do all of the above and the pay is great but from the duties described doesn't the job actually sound like a simple Tech Support, or computer support specialist job?

Also the company has over 400 pc's but still to me this sounds like a cake job and will be very easy for someone with my experiance, what do you think?

BTW I am pumped about the job and can't wait till the first monday of January to start.

You're right, I don't hear much about networks in the list of job duties. But if they've got that many PC's there's plenty of network support to be done. Maybe as the new guy, you'll be assigned to the simpler stuff at first, then get more into the network side.

"Pay is great" is a good start. And people in corporate PC departments end up doing some of everything. Some of it won't be a stretch for your skills, but it needs to be done.

Good luck, and contratulations on getting the job.

This may sound like a cake job to you, and that is great because you are confident and employers love that. But also take into account that there will probably be new things to learn and problems to solve. If after a year you think you haven't learned anything new, then it will be time to search for something new. However, if you're on the job and you are just smoking hot and your manager is impressed with your skills, then you'll probably get dished more harder problems to solve. To me this is a great opportunity. Once you make a name for yourself, word will get around, if not inside your company but out on the net too. You'll have headhunters calling you. Believe me, because I'm a headhunter and we hear about who the good ones are and we make the call.
Good Luck!

You will be supporting 400 PCs on a network. Changing printer cartridges, setting up email accounts and changing PC hardware is to be expected in your line of work. Its known as being versatile. Good luck and congratulations.
