A friend's mom had a tiny Christmas tree on her desk at work and someone complained and her boss said she had to have a Menorah if she was going to keep the tree. The people who had a Menorah were not made to have a Christmas tree on their desks though. Can we say double standard? I don't care what religion you are, if you complain about something like this, you should also have to comply with the guidelines.

Since we have a national Christmas tree on the mall which is put there by the national park service and lighted by the President in a televised ceremony, I don't see how you can claim Christmas decorations are not permitted on public property. There is also a tree on the capital grounds paid for by tax payers and public streets are decorated nation wide. People love Christmas, but symbols of explicitly religious beliefs come too close to government support and establishment of a particular religion. Having town squares filled with religious symbols of Druids, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews . Muslims etc, would not enhance Christmas decorations and would just promote controversy

I Love Christmas, and the whole "War on Christmas" stuff is doing nothing but ruining the whole idea of it. GET OVER IT!
Businesses have the legal right to do whatever the heck they want! If they want to have a Christmas party they can, if they want to call it something else, WHO CARES!

I think anyone who makes that big of a religous deal over something that should be focused more on the family than religion, should be forced to live on the street for 3 months, and see if they think afterward, that our government doesn't have better things to do with our tax dollars around Christmas time, than waste them on hanging decorations!
A good 3 months of living in a homeless shelter will cure anyone of this nonsense!

The issue isn't whether or not they can put the decorations up, But when politicians can't even balance a budget, the last thing I need my tax dollars spent on is support of a religious holiday.

i love Christmas myself, but I don't think its the government's job to hype it, or any other religious holiday.
You know, that is still tax dollars burning, that he same people claiming there is a war on Christmas, also cries about paying.

Right-wingers keep crying about it being the ACLU or liberals who have this "war on Christmas", but scubadog35's answer proves that it is businesses not wanting to offend people, and it is their right to run their business how they see fit. If it was a decision to fire someone, these right-wing corporatists would be defending them forever, but since they want to avoid offending people, they want to cry about a war on Christmas, and divert the blame to someone else.

The whole argument boils down to religious types having a problem with living and let live.

Very few people really hate Christmas. Some don't like the commercialization of the holiday though, which is perfectly understandable.

Most of it is BS. It is my belief that this whole "War on Christmas" is battled by a very, very small handful of whiners on each side; those who wish remove Christmas (And other holidays sometimes) from the public square, and those who are ridiculously over-sensitive to the notion that some people don't like Christmas. And of course both sides have a persecution complex and love playing the victim. (The religious nuts more so than the secular nuts IMO.)

Most people love Christmas. There are always one or two that will whine about anything and try to ruin it for everyone else. Let people put up any decorations they want to according to their own religion just don't ask others to quit theirs that has been around for ages. Live and let live!

Christmas has become so far removed from its roots that I wonder how anyone who sees a christmas tree in front of a government building thinks about the religious aspect of it.

By the way, the christmas tree finds it roots in the pagan religions of Germay and the Scandanvian countries, not in Christianity.

You're free to decorate your homes and churches. But if you insist on putting it in front of city hall or the county courthouse, it's because you're trying to make the illegitimate statement, "THIS is the official religion! THIS is what you should believe!" Not on MY government's property you don't!

If you want to have a "Come one, come all!" policy, would that include Satanists? It should!

I agree and anyone that tells you its a "conspiracy theory" needs to put down the pipe and tune in. The company my wife used to work for tried to enact "Winter Festival" in place of Christmas. They didnt want to offend the non Christians... We sent out "Jesus loves you, Merry Christmas" cards to ALL of her coworkers.

Its ridiculous and it infuriates me.
