For starters, avoid answering questions in Polls and Surveys. The polls here don't usually require much thought or depth; people just choose which answers they like and that is that. Whether or not you get a Best Answer is almost based entirely on chance....you want to answer questions where you know that you can increase your odds by paying extra attention.

Try to anser questions which aren't getting very many answers and give as thorough and detailed an answer as you can. Provise reference links whenever possible, and don't answer aserious question with something you know won't get a best answer..... a really bad joke, for example, or saying something mean. If you want a higher best answer percentage, you just need to give high-quality answers. Also, like I said, it does help if you are responding to a question for which not very many people seem to know the answer. That'll just increase the likelihood that your answer will be chosen as best.

Actually answer the question as its stated, don't push your own personal agenda (as most people seem to do) and people appreciate it.

If I ask is person a or b is best then the way NOT go get a best answer is:

* Tell the poster they are both sinners and will burn in hell
* Answer "idk" or something similar
* Make up a purely fictional answer, especially when its a closed question that has a purely factual answer
* Pretend like they asked you about something completely unrelated and answer that

Basically its a matter of commonsense, read the question, think about your experience as it relates to the question (or just google it) and post a detailed answer (where required). Where possible provide links to related articles.

The obvious answer is "give better answers," but you can also go back to old questions that are in voting and vote for your own answer. I used to do it on a regular basis, but haven't in quite a while.
Some people create multiple accounts for this purpose, but I don't recommend that, because not only is it unfair and annoying, but it's also against community guidelines. I also suggest not voting for your own answers if you don't really deserve best answer. It might add about 5% to your best answer rating.

Answer more questions that you feel you have an expertise in or can site your source. Lots of times people answer questions to be funny or to chime in agreement to other answers. Those are rarely chosen as the best answer. (Although I have had answers chosen simply because they made someone laugh.) If know the answer to something and I see others have said the same thing already and I don't have anything new to add, I don't bother answering.

Got a sneaky trick for you. Go back through the list of questions you've answered on your profile page, and click on any that say they're "In Voting", then simply vote for your answer as Best Answer (provided you can remember which one it is- they remove the names) It works really well, because most people don't bother to vote on non-controversial issues, so often 1 vote will win it. I don't recommend you do it often though, because it removes the whole purpose of the Best Answer system, and you don't get any of the satisfaction of knowing you've genuinely provided the best answer. Use responsibly!

Only answer the questions in which you truly think you have a chance of getting the best answer. I see so many people on here that answer questions they know nothing about. When you answer a question, really think about your answer before you give it. And no, you can't have any of mine - I worked hard for them. Best of luck to you!

lol You can't have some of mine. The best way is to answer a fewer amount of questions and ones that you can give good answers to. The ratio evens out and your percentage goes up with each best answer.
Try that. lol

I think you actually have to answer questions and then if the asker thinks your answer was better than everyone elses they will pick you as 'best answer'. The more people that pick you for best answer, the higher your percentage will be.

Well...you increase by having a best answer, so if you truly have many best answers, the percentage will increase.
