Because of the molecular arrangements. The atoms and molecules are arranged in orderly manner and are very close to each other. Therefore, when a bunch of them is heated at the other end corner, they vibrate vigorously, thus hiting neighbouring atoms, causing heating transfer to other atoms

It is to do with free electrons carrying energy (in the form of heat). This is also why metals are good electrical conductors.
