Mark F is perfectly correct - temporary files come and go, as does the virtual memory (some of the hard drive is used to supplement the onboard RAM in programs that demand more memory in order to run).

temporary files and the virtual memory that windows uses to run programs can impact in the size of your drive. If it just goes up and down it's ok, if you're loosing space all the time, you may have a virus.
