Hi, my name is Ana and i am 14 years old. i want to know what qualities in a young girl that older adults look for as mature and respectable. i want to stand out apart from my friends as "grown up". im not an adult, so i dont know what adults think about this. also, what characteristics about a teenage girl turn you off?
i really want the women at our church to think "wow shes really growing up," or "I really like that girl".
and also, when 14 year olds wear makeup, does it make adults think "oh shes just trying to grow up too fast" or do you think it makes them look pretty?
please, i need LOTS of advice. please help me!

1. Use complete, polite sentences
2. Look into the eyes of people you are speaking to
3. Listen to what adults say and ask questions about what they are saying. For example, if they are telling you a story about their day, their past, etc, ask them questions about it.
4. Never answer questions with "good" or "nice" If asked, "How are you?" Answer, "I'm well, thank you. How are you?"

Wear your makeup to look as natural as possible and not too "poppy." Make up should enhance your natural beauty, not take over your entire look.

Most importantly, be yourself and like yourself. Beauty like that what you're trying to acheive comes from within. Smile a lot.

Don't be so eager to grow up too fast. Just continue to be yourself. Being polite and respectful to your elders will take you far...adults appreciate it when teens and younger adults are not rude and do not engage in disrespectful behavior. Carry yourself with confidence, but not arrogance. Don't be shy about asking for guidance from those adults whom you admire.

But all in all, just be yourself and everything else will fall into place.

As far as wearing makeup, in my experience, I have discovered that less is more. Take it easy on the makeup, when you are young it is better to show off the natural you. Get into a good beauty regime now...using a good cleanser and moisturizer. Also, if you must wear makeup, start slow...use some colored lip gloss (MAC has a great line of lip glass that I use with and without lipstick). There is plenty of time for makeup, so begin with the lip gloss and save the full made up look for special events (prom, dances, etc.).

Hope that helps!

The only way to get people to respect you is ACTION, not looks or words.
Be responsible, helpful, honest. Help out wherever possible, but be sure you are in church at least 3/4 of the time [ maybe do nursery once a month? ]
Assist in church wide activities, like Christmas Baskets, and Cleanup or Decorating.
Smile at everyone, and talk to people outside your age group.
Dress pretty, but be modest - no microminis, cleavage, etc.
At 14, you should be able to wear lip gloss - a bit more if you are in high school.

You can't be too much in a hurry to grow up, because as soon as you do you want to be 14 again. From this question you seem mature enough. Just be yourself. If you respect the people around you and your situations you will be respected.
On the makeup, more is less. Make up should just be used to accent your good features.
Like I said, don't be in too big of a hurry to grow up!

Maturity cannot be acted! Don't wear too much make-up; I cannot stand seeing little girls act like trash!
When I was 14 many moons ago, I was considered very mature because I could carry conversations about politics and literature and I never bothered about the "silliness" for which kids are known. I seemed mature because I felt older than girls my age.
Don't follow the crowd, think for yourself, and focus on your
studies. Be responsible for charitable causes since that would impress your lot quite a bit.

Okay, I am only 12 and I take care of the little kids at my church and I help the moms by taking the kids back to the nursery so they don't have to go all the way back there and all the ladies at church think I am grown up and responsible. I have had some ask me to babysit and all kinds of things. Make-up doesn't do that as long as its respectable makeup and not like heavy black eyeliner. Its pretty easy to get older ladies at church to think you are mature and responsible!!

have a sense of style.
im not talking about well put together hollister outfits. try to shop at stores that look more mature rather than wearing a tee shirt that says ABERCROMBIE on it and a pair of acid washed jeans. wear your outfit with fashionble flat shoes BUT NOT HEELS. i cannot stand when i see a 14 year old wearing heels.
try to avoid fashions popular with yourger kids. im talking about prints like big hearts on tee shirts, rainbow strips, ect. also leg warmers, skinny jeans, rubber flip flops, ect. starting to get it?
makeup helps you look older along with a good haircut. ill start with makeup -
you should choose a nutral eyeshadow like stuff in the brown family. pretty much anyone can pull it off. dotn wear bright colors like blue or green on your eyes, it makes you look like a little girl trying to look older. also dont wear too much eyeliner. its a mistake young teenagers often make. wear eyeline on your top lid to define your eyes and mascara. thats all you need.
hair-
you need a good haircut thats not long even hair with side swept bangs. get a layered cool cut to make you look more mature. pick out something hot!! and i mean hott in a mature way not the haircut the party girl in your class has. and ask yourself when your looking at pictures of cuts....is this soemhting i would see on a ten year old?

well you asked for it. lots of advice. so if you need anymore just ask :]
