Definitely. The U.S. economy has performed terribly under Bush. The Dow Jones is barely above what it was 7 years ago (it should grow a minimum of 3% per year). The dollar is at an all time low against other currencies and continues to decline. And while unemployment has stayed pretty stable, we have lost millions of high paying manufacturing jobs and replaced them with low paying service industry jobs. The wealthy have done pretty well - but middle and lower income Americans are hurting. Their savings are gone and any raises in income have been more than swallowed up by high gasoline/energy prices and higher health care costs. And a once huge government surplus has been turned into an even bigger deficit.

Not in the least!

Your question implies that the decreased value of the dollar is a bad thing. Nothing could be further from the truth. There are huge imbalances in the US economy (i.e., trade deficit, savings rate, consumption) that have to be corrected eventually and a devalued dollar encourages these corrections. In addition, the worsening credit crunch and real estate woes are costing jobs and decreasing economic output. These declines are being offest- at least in part- by greater exports and foreign capital investment that would not occur if the dollar hadn't sunk to its current level.

Probably businesses that buy their supplies from Canada. Otherwise, the American economy is about 11 times that of Canada. The relative value of the Canadian dollar won't have as much of an effect on the U.S. as it does on Canada.

No ! Why should one worry. If a vacation trip to Canada is going to result in my paying more American dollars, I'll just find a vacation spot in the States. Was seriously considering a trip by train from Toronto to Vancouver via Canadian Pacific.

Yes, but hopefully the war will be over soon, and we can try to get out feet back under us as a country.

It is so scary to know that essentially this entire war is being put on a credit card...
